We have a fantastic Kickstart opportunity for three River Conversation Trainees at Ribble Rivers Trust. If you are aged 16 – 24, claiming Universal Credit & interested in applying, please speak to your Work Coach about being referred for this vacancy.
River Conservation Trainees will be involved in both physical conservation projects, such as tree planting and river clean ups, and events and activities working with local people to look after their local environment. Working with the Volunteer Supervisor, Community Engagement Officer, Project Officer and with volunteers to deliver practical river improvement projects within the catchment.

The practical aspects may include:

Tree planting and wetland creation.
River clean-ups, project maintenance and river channel improvements, e.g. brash bundles to prevent erosion.
Construction and repair of footbridges, stiles, gates, fences, interpretation boards and signs. Use of hand tools and equipment.
Caretaking, maintenance and cleaning of RRT projects, e.g. fish pass projects.
Communicating with visitors, community groups and volunteers.
Adhering to all health and safety rules and regulations.
Other duties, which the supervisors may reasonably request.
We will provide work-based training in practical conservation skills, tool maintenance, and essential workplace training such as health and safety and first aid. We will also provide support with developing transferable workplace skills such as time management, problem solving, teamworking, perseverance and motivation. This will include recording tasks and the skills used so trainees have an idea of how their skills and experience have developed. Trainees will work with a variety of people, and have a dedicated mentor who they will speak to regularly about their traineeship. Later in the placement we will support trainees with writing a curriculum vitae (CV), job seeking and preparing for interviews.

The role will be based from Ribble Rivers Trust offices in Clitheroe, but will be expected to work across the catchment. Transport will be provided from the office base each day. Training will be given for all tasks and you will be working in a team of positive, like-minded people.
